Accommodates up to six guests / British Tourist Board – 4 Star Gold – Click Here to see report
Queen Victoria spoke affectionately of nearby Tenbury Wells as “my little town in the orchard”. This northern pocket of Worcestershire still overflows with hops and cider apple trees. Stealing its name from the backdrop of ancient undisturbed woodland, the Holiday Cottage in Tenbury Wells and its surrounds make a natural family home – for both frazzled humans and local badgers.
Winding your way up the track to this converted stable, you catch glorious glimpses of the Teme and Kyre valleys; on arrival, you’re greeted by neighbour and owner, cheerful, thoughtful Ellie. Generous windows flood rooms with light, which bounces off polished elm floorboards; a wood-burner and Aga keep things cosy, the kitchen is handcrafted, the views are long and bucolic. Upstairs, bedrooms are brass-bedded and floral, tucked under the eaves in that cottagey way. You get a handy loo and basin up here, a sparkling bathroom with a roll top tub downstairs.
Lucky children have seven acres to romp in, and a secret treehouse complete with hammocks and barbecue for midnight feasts. Resting on the borders of three counties, this is prime walking country, while bustling Ledbury and Ludlow, England’s slow food capital, are just a drive away.
